Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

wow I just have 2-2080s over my 300g atm and it's fine for me. I could see myself adding a 2040 in the middle maybe in the future but not really.

Then again, my tank is only 24" deep(front to back) I guess you'll have to go two fixtures deep twice.

Looking forward to seeing your tank *heads over there*

Besides saving the 'custom' settings at the end of the programing cycle there are 2 other things that help.

1) In the 'menu' there is a 'Factory Default' prompt. Open it and make sure that it is off. Otherwise when it restarts after a power out situation, it goes there rather than your custom settings.

2) If you are losing all your settings and have to reprogram all the times and levels, before you save, run the system thru the preview once and then save.

I had very similar issues to what you had before I figured it out. It's the one weak point with the EG product, crappy directions. But then we all know how common that is with Chinese products. I'm surprised that haven't asked somebody to write up new instructions! Hey EverGrow... call me! LOL! :headwally:

It seems that my IT2040 defaults back to the 1 hours setting when I simulate a power outage by unplugging it. I've done both of the steps above, but can't get it to automatically go back to the 1/2 hour mode. After plugging back in, I have to hit 'Menu' then scroll down to 'Custom' and hit 'OK' then hit 'Menu' twice to get back to the main screen. I do not need to do any adjustments while in 'Custom' and it shows it is in the 1/2 hour mode. After doing those key strokes, it goes to the right settings, but before I do that, the light intensity is at the 1 hour mode setting for that time.

I was very nervous for a while because I hadn't yet programmed the 1 hour settings, so it was coming back on with both channels at 100%, which is the default setting during the afternoon. Not good for me since this is on a shallow tank and I am currently only at 30% blue and 10% white while ramping up a little each week.

The only way I could avoid everything coming back on at 100% was to program the 1 hour setting to similar intensity as my 1/2 hour settings. At least I won't bleach my corals if I have a power outage while away from home.

But I would still like for it to come back on with the 1/2 hour settings automatically. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ron

Sorry,
I've never used the half hour settings. Punching in 48 entries on each of 3 fixtures was enough for me. Hopefully Logan at Reef Breeders can help you out.

I'm about to upgrade to a custom 8'x45"x30" tank and have been planning to run LEDs on it. I love my halides for coral growth but in this heat, I just can't imagine that many of them. Not to mention the power bill and bulb replacements!

I'm already sold on these, so I guess right now I'm trying to figure out how many fixtures I will need and what optics I want. I am pretty LPS heavy right now, with SPS and softies/zoas mixed in.

Would 6 IT2080s running the width of the tank be sufficient? Since the fixture is 32" and my tank is 45" wide, would that create obvious shadows along the edges? I could use the 120 degree optics around the outside if necessary, but I don't want light spilling out either. Any advice is appreciated! Great thread :)

Hey again Ron, one more question for you....I understand that the D120's are dimmable, but is that the same as lowering the intensity, or do the knobs just change the color temperature? I ask from the perspective of acclimating corals. Thx.

Just received my eight (8) photon 24's, just plugged one in and held it over my tank, looks fabulous, can't wait to fully install them this weekend.

Just imagine how much you would've spent buying 8 of the other ones...ack. I'm sure they are going to be very nice looking. So bright... I only have two 2080 on my 300 and it's great imho.

Using the dimmers reduces the power to the leds and therefore reduces the intensity and the PAR values. It may have some small affect on the color of an individual channel, but I think that affect is minimal.

davidfrances, as Snausy said, you will enjoy these and I'd love to see a photo of your tank... even better, maybe a before and after photos!

I got the Photon 24" with the stock layout and although it is very nice, compared to D120 it looks a bit on the redish side.

The 24" has all 4500 warm whites where my D120 had cool white and neutrals only.

Has anyone replaced a couple warm whites with some cools or maybe even daylights such at 10k or 12k leds?

I'm just looking for a bit more "white" than a red cast. I run the white channel at 40% max during the day.

I did. I chaned out almost half the whites with some 14k whites. I looks fabulous!!! Much closer now the the phoenix 14k look I love so much!!

Thank you sir. That being the case Im gonna go with the 2x D120s. Thanks again for all your help and happy independence day!

I don't know if this has been tried in this long thread, but I just got my d120 fuge light (C1 is all deep red, C2 is deep red, royal blue and violet) dimming on my Apex VarSpd ports. Turned out to be really easy. Hasn't hurt the Apex in a half hour, and I don't see why it would.

It should be pretty easy to put in a square hole on the top of the d120, mount an RJ45 jack in there, and do control directly from the Apex with a Cat5 cable.

Was talking about it a bit in the DIY forum here.

Just installed my RB Photon 24's over both my 250 DD's. I'll post before and after full tank shots later tonight. Looks fabulous:

Four units over each tank

Seriously?

You can hang it any height you want. Your tank is only 16" deep so you can penetrate that deep with the light hung anywhere. If you go low, dial the power way down (I mean WAY down). The best suggestion I can think of is hang at a height where the light at the bottom of the tank is just big enough that it covers the tank end to end and front to back with as little spillage out of the tank as possible. That's the best use of the light available and it looks better. The next choice is hang it high enough so you can get under it to work in the tank. Or low enough that it isn't obnoxiously lighting up your entire room!

I'm guessing about 8" to 15" is the range that will work. And if you don't have a PAR meter, I'd start with the power set at 30%... maybe even start at 20%, and slowly work it up over weeks. With a 16" deep tank you are probably not going to get over about 60%-70% before you start burning up some corals.

I have mine 12.5 inches at max of 60%. I have the 24 I think the 32 is way too much light. I changed my skimmer and burned the hell out of my corals.

I love them so far! I have the Canadian version Evergrow D120s.

Quiet. Quiet. Quiet. Really? 3 fans each and this quiet. I can barely hear them over everyday house sounds.

Color. FANTASTIC! I love the controllability. I had no need for bells and whistles, so these are perfect for the price.

The plug in on one is a little finicky and really needs pressure to get the plugs in

Sorry about the FTS... Fighting Dino's.

I modified a pair of tek light legs and built a rack out of aluminium to mount them on the tank.
