How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

Carefull.... I started with a little 220 gallon... this hobby is addictive.

So, you're saying I should likely delete the file for the 20k display room I made after joining the site from the house plans?

I figure the house will be all reinforced poured concrete anyway, and that I keep reading that the larger the tank the easier it is to keep stable,... Adding large holding tanks with segmented displays really only added like 20% to the cost.

Glad that Khaos is back to his shenanagans again. Be careful not to infect that pic line infected - i suspect that this aquarium salt water is more dangerous/infectous than any of us think.

Happy to see the thread rolling along again - happy to hear that you're feeling better.

I just read through your whole thread -- phew  ...... well I am retired and have plenty of time. I picked up on this through the Thread of the Month and although I'm an engineer (and you know how engineers like to plan everything down to the last nut and bolt) so would never tackle things the way you do, but I did get a perverse pleasure out of reading it. :D Well worth the Thread of the Month.
I love your outlook on life and determination to do it your way (I sometimes think doctors like to do stuff because it's cool or whatever). Keep up the good work and look after yourself -- okay.
I will definitely subscribe to this and look forward to your tank progress as well as that of your health.

I read the first 2 pages of this thread when it first started, then lost track of it till this week. All I gotta say, Wow! Talk about perserverance. also, as soon as I saw your stand construction I though"wow, bet he's a millright or welder by trade".

And I agree with your additude about medical stuff on at least one point. Sleep is one of the most important parts of healing, and I sleep much better at home than in a hospital. but I'll never complain again about having to get my sinuses ported and polished 3 times again. ;)

They're kind of like us engineers like that. ;)

Definitely never a dull moment over here!

I still like the idea of a continuous, or even daily measured water change system. I'm looking at one myself on my new system, constructed out of two 10g tanks.

As for the discussion on new ink from before the split. I'd recommend a collection of oozing band-aids across the scar. I googled, but it doesn't seem to be an idea that anyone else has taken to.

On the water change system, why use a double pump system? why not just add the new water and have an overflow drain in the return section for the waste water? You'd need a timer to deactivate the top off system when the water change was taking place.

How about Tinkerbell with a needle and thread sewing him up?

Inspiring thread. I read the first half last month before the split and did not subscribe. I am kind of glad I did not as it was a bit too much waiting to see how you faired. It was much better to skip ahead and see the happy ending. Sorry to see some of the comments a few pages ago, but, this Canadian is inspired and delighted by your story. All of the great stories in American history begin with a man who raised his middle finger to conventional ideas. If I had known about the Paypal account and my Canadian dollar had been worth something in the US, I would have gladly donated to your recovery fund, however, in the fine Atlantic Canadian tradition, if I am ever in your neck of the woods, I will make sure I stop by with a case of beer in hand.

Wow!! OMG K...you have been through h377 and back! I am glad you are doing ok! And wow after all you have been through, you have time to post in thread from a reef club ACROSS the country from you! You are a true reefer... ANyway i hope you and your tank and tink are doing well.

sweet set up man...

to big for a reef IMO.. 300g is enough for me..
750 would b a awesome for fish with LR tank. but you got it going.
fish only would have saved lots of time and money. but i love your tank its freakin cool. good luck with the project.

WOW, after almost three days of reading, finally made it past the split to the end of the thread,
Kaos , will continue to follow your build, I am really glad you made it through all your challenges, looking forward to the rest of the story, Tink you are awesome...... subscribing to the thread.

This Canadian thinks you're a stand up guy! Best wishes for continued better health.

One thing I learned with my daughter when she was born with kidney problems is that the only person in charge of your health care is YOU! Dr's don't always talk to each other or pay attention to what the other is doing - they mean well and most are fabulous, but the only person who can make the final decisions is you.

Love the tank. I was about to compete my 180 build when reality smacked me right in the face. Now the financial necessity to sell our home has put things on hold but I will keep the dream alive and one day will find a way to start again.

In the meantime, I will live vicariously through you and your wonderful tank.

"I will live vicariously through you and your wonderful tank." I read your thread every day waiting for you to post. Your tank is too cool, to much for words. When you go wothout posting a few days I, we, worry. Please post more pics. I go thru withdraws. I, we, all want to be a part of your tank.
Still think if you bury the water changeing tanks out side then plumb in into the fish room....or the stacking 55gal drums painted like a six pack was good too.

zomg, dibbs on the 1000th post!!

amazing build thread so far, one of the best I have ever read.
