How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

i haven't really wished i was back in school up at Walla Walla, but I got on this thread SUPER late and really wish I were back up there. the drive to seatlle would be well worth it. Northeast of Bellingham puts you near SNowqualmie?

I am amazed at how so many people have rallied to support mr. khaos. and on top of that we get to look at a shamu tank. couldn't ask for anything more. what a great group of people. i'm glad to be apart of the community.

PS--kind of late, but my 2 cents: donkey shows, not as cool as one might think. one of many negatives living so close to the border.

Closer to the border.... between Lynden and Sumas..

And you still have to see a donkey show once in your life...

Twice and you have a stronger stomach than I do...

and don't worry, this thread is just beginning... theres still 2 more tanks and actually adding livestock coming...

Ok there it is. I had relatives north of Everett and Marysville. Your tank was cool enough during that huge heatwave? Not that I would look forward to cooling (or heating) a 750 tank.

I was at Mt. Hood for a wedding last weekend just when it broke, absolutely beautiful. Nobody appreciates the NW like they should.

I cheated, I have air conditioning in that room. I've found that if I keep the room at 72 degrees, the tank stays right about 80, and doesn't dip much overnight.

I'm basically a brand new reefer, and the "Big" tank build I'm currently planning will be a mere 120g to 180g max... But Wow! This thread is an inspiration for sure! I started reading it last night, and after a few computer sessions I'm finally all caught up. I could never pull off what Khaos is doing but I'm now a subscriber and I'll be along for this ride.

PS, to whoever it was that asked a couple of pages back if everyone from Canada is mean, following a certain poster's comments... The answer is NO, most of us are pretty nice guys. I promise!

Carefull.... I started with a little 220 gallon... this hobby is addictive.

I've been following along for a few weeks now and truly believe your sir name is Khaosinc with your first name being Sy and your middle name being Chotic. I love the insanity!! It makes me feel somewhat normal with the emphasis being on somewhat. I'm sure I would be doing the same thing if it weren't for my wife and children. I see both sides of your health situation, yours and the docs. Imagine it this way: You put in a sand sifting jaw fish to keep your sandbed stirred. He decides to go to the one spot in the tank that would cause complete collapse of the rock work you busted your butt to create, does his thing, and it collapses. The jawfish is just being himself. Your trying to get everything in the tank to work in harmony. Like the old saying goes....."I just gotta be me"

:o

I must say I'm quite envious of your tank and think of all the fun I could be having with the beer and the fish and the beer and the coral and the beer and the water changing and the beer and the plumbing and the beer (BRP due to the PBR) and the electrical and the and the and the and the.......................................

You are to reefing what Nikki Sixx is to Motley Crue and Motley Crew is to rock and roll. Dream BIG.......LIVE THE LIFE!!!!

OK OK you are what Bruce Dickenson is to Iron Maiden and what Iron Maiden is to Metal. Die with your boots on and NEVER Run to the hills!!!

khaosinc - this is a great thread. Thanks for posting all your pictures of the build. I hope you get well soon.

Looking forward to pics of new livestock!

Loved the backyard pics in the lounge! Don't worry, Fall's coming. I tell Mrs. Ike I'm going for the nature preserve look on our little 5 acre jungle!

To keep the thread going. What are you planning next?

The next 2 main steps are first to add a real clean up crew rather than just the survivors from my last tank. Not very exciting I know, though I am still toying with a horseshoe crab I figure with 40 sq. feet of sand bed, he should be able to find enough to eat. I just wont be able to have corals in the sand.

Then I really need to build a hood and skin the stand. I also need to get some more light over that tank. Currently I have a 72" and a 48" NEP, and a cheapo 72" 8 bulb t5 light. I plan on trying some Ideas with some LED greenhouse lighting and some LED industral lighting I have access to.

Then as soon as my ribs are up to it the 220 (my old tank that failed) will be rebuilt, and I think that will be my fuge/macro tank. Most likley it will have some fish in it at some point. Might even see if I can get some manderins to breed in there.

Theres still actually finishing the fish room and power as well. Currently I'm really not supposed to be lifting over 5 pounds and I'm trying not to push it too often. I really don't want to break open my sternum for a 3rd time.

Hopefully, at some point in there, I can start getting some livestock in there, and actually start adding corals.

The other big project on the horizen involves another 300 gallon tank that I hope to have as preditory tank. Most likley one of the larger Eels.

Alot of this also assumes that my finances recover more than they have, and I get the hospital bills paid off. I'm really not big on oweing money.

That should be enough to keep this thread going a little while...LOL

Time to re-open the link to the PayPal account. I'd gladly kick in some cash just to see more of your antics. :D

just read the whole thread. and i still have not seen the donkey show, but heard lots about it and i plan on seeing it at some point. good luck with the tank and meds

Hello Khaos

I just subscribed to this site and read tour thread. I have read through the whole thing and am amazed by your perseverence. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best. I am in the planning stages of my own mega tank after a five year period of involuntary abstinence from the hobby. I will be following you progress and wish you a speedy recovery.

always good to have more for the ride...

Now 4.5 hours till I'm off work and its my weekend...

I hate 12 hour shifts.

going to rearrange my sump tommorow... My arm is finally free of that evil pic line, and I don't have that blasted bag attached to me 24/7...
