How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

I too just came across this thread. Didn't manage to read it in one sitting, but in between teaching my chemistry classes and life in general finished it in 2 days.

Glad you are home, and doing better. Things have got to start taking a positive turn for you. Positive thoughts for you and Tink.

I'm impressed, I don't think I could read 2000+ posts in 2 days and at the moment I really don't have much else to do.

Though tonight I am redesiging my sump a bit to improve flow and guess I will find out how the cat sharks do in a reef tank.. maybe even try and catch that blasted blenny in there.

There was no way under Gods Green Earth or in refing terms under Kind Neptunes Sea I could have made this a to be continued mini series :)
So glad your doing much better.
OH and BTW still didnt see the mermaid pics :)

I caught her but she was already out of the sea... you'll have to live with just merman pics.

on the lighter side I did get the baffles I wanted out of the sump without breaking anything and did get to confirm that blasted blenny is still in there. not even going to try and catch him. I didn't have enough eggcrate so part 2 is still on hold.

Is it even possible to go to home depot and NOT forget one thing.

My plans for my DIY GAC reactor (converted old berlin skimmer) are also on hold, as the pump I was planning on using the whole time apperently is frozen up and dead. I even had all the fittings I was planning on using. maybe I'll just hook it up to an old canister filter. This time where I can actually get at it.

Them mermaids always get shy when cameras come out...

on the lighter side I got half of my sump project done. I forgot the egg crate when I went ot home depot. Baffles are out of half of it. I came to the conclusion also that I was not up to pulling 200 pounds of rock or so out and so the cats are still in there. I did see the blasted blenny though...

I'm sure you know how lucky you are to have her. She is beautiful inside and out!
Pics of the skimmer since you've cleaned it?

Whoa! Wear protective gear when dealing with one that size.

I'm quite happy to let it be.... it can eat whatever poop it finds. I'm sure I won't see it again for years

Its already yucky again. still does its job even running 2 pumps down.

She's amazing IMO. not many would have stood by me this last year and now with all the "fun" I've been having over the last year. She's put up with me for 4 years and change now

!!TINK!!!
Thats the sound I heard right before the back panel of my 60 gallon cracked right down the middle and dumped everything on the floor I lost everything this was after moving everything from a 140 gallon that split a seam after about 10 years and leaked out slow enough to save all.
I found this thread a couple of days ago through a link on reef keeper. It took a that long to read it all, couldnt stop. Wondering when the TV versions comming out.
Hope and pray things turn back around for you guys.
So I registered and this is my first post.
I have had fresh water tanks since I was a kid back in the 60s my first tank had a stainlless steel frame that would shock you when touched. My 140 had african cichlids that were breeding like rabbits.
Now I am finally thinking about trying to reseal my 140 and go salt reef. Somthing I have been wanting to do for years but was to chicken.
I am learning a lot on here.
Wish me luck and the same to you and Tink

I can’t see any pics at work, guess this keeps people from spending the day on RC instead of working.
I can’t wait till I get home and can see the updates.

I got hooked on this thread the second day you posted. I owe you a big thank you for it too. My 100gl cracked last Halloween and emptied onto our carpet in about 5 minutes. Luckily I had a 40 gallon tank that was being set up and in went all my fish and whatever coral I could fit in my half-drunk panicked state. I wanted to quit the next day every time I looked at that empty tank or stepped on the soaked carpet. So I sat down and read this thread and realized I just needed to shut up and fix things. My new 90gl is doing great and I hope karma pays you back twice what it owes you K. Because of you I'm still doing something I love.

It's a euro-reef 750-A. Getting new pumps are next on my list. I can order then with the fittings to pop right on, but at $350 a pop thats going to have to wait. I really need to just break down and bypass the whole thing and see what I did to them but its a bit of a pain to do.

gravity fed off my overflow
