Skimmer is plumed in. I think I will wait till I have a full day to leave it running.

I wish I could afford that skimmer! That thing is beautiful. It's external isn't it? I love the idea of the neck cleaner as well, it'll help that thing work so much better. I wonder if it would outperform a 8000 that was only cleaned once a week.

Got a question for you. Why replace the old sand with new sand of the same kind. Is there a benefit besides not having to clean it and the new bacteria that comes from it? Was it just you didn't want to clean it or was it for the new bacteria that you bought new sand or something different?

I didnt get live sand.
I think that if i reuse the sand I would be fighting nitrates for months to come, that just IMO. Others might chime in

yes it is xternal. neck cleaner should be nice. I did'nt go with the 8000 cuz I think it would have been over kill. I dont think it would have done any more than the 5000.

Can you post some pics of your skimmer, now that it's plumbed in?

i kept it simple. I am using a Ehim compact 5000 to feed skimmer. As for the feed line I have pump in sump and am using a 1" soft hose. I put a 90`barb fitting in the line so the line didnt kink.
