Mixed 500 gal. A.G.E. build. 12 unit LED Radion lights.

Dave it's been awhile since I been in your thread. Sorry to hear about the frag tank but glad you were home to jump right in to save stuff. Also, congratulations on the write up. That is truly amazing!!

Dave:
You have a beautiful system .... I have a couple of quick questions for you:

1. What is your weekly husbandry routine?
2. What are you feeding your corals?
3. I am thinking about slowly removing most of my sandbed on my 150 mixed reef as the biggest PITA is siphoning it weekly when I do my water change. Any suggestions about how much to remove at a time to not throw the system out of balance? the tank has been up for 1 1/2 yrs ... Thx!

The Starboard is an amazing idea! If I do another tank it's going to be 300-400 gals and that will be the way I go ...

Dave,

Truly amazing. I am just a noob, but one can dream right? I live near the Twin Cities so, I was intrigued when you talked about Salt Water Empire. I decided to take the 1 hour drive down south to check it out. Well worth my time, and Li said to say "Hi". I learned a ton in the two hours I spent with him. I can't wait to go again soon.

23% Water change every 2 weeks, Clean glass weekly, water test weekly,
You would have to drain tank and remove all rock to add Starboard.
I would drain tank and do it all at once then you wouldn't have to worry about throwing it out

I have to go to Twin cities 4-5 times a year. Every time i'm up that way I'll set down and talk with Li.
Li Knows this hobby inside out. And he loves to share.
Saltwater Empire in Bloomington Mn. Is a World Class Aquarium Store.

David,

Your running a CA reator aren't you?
I am thinking of taking off my doser & return to calcium reactor.

The thing I remember most is low PH & that stupid calc reactor. It was so up & down as the kalk was used up. Constant adjustment.

I had a hard time keeping the PH up & I have protein skimmer with outside air feed.

Heard of CO2 scrubber but talked to Mike at Precision Marine & his opinion is that they were useless.

What about having the effluient from the ca reactor drips into a small bowl that would drain into the sump that contains an air stone??? Do you think that would raise the PH ?

are you running a second chamber on your calcium reactor? they really help by buffering the PH of the water leaving the reactor and before hitting the tank.
they are very simple to make or buy.

Yes I'm running a GEO 818 calcium reactor. I do run outside air to skimmer, but PH was still dropping to 7.7 at night. I've tried the bucket and airstone. The only thing i noticed with that method was a bucket full of calcium deposits.
About 6 weeks ago I set up the Geo KR618 Kalkwasser Reactor.
Its simple to setup and use.
It removes a lot of the CO2 from water.
PH is stable.
I know there is no way I can use the Geo KR618 Kalkwasser Reactor too maintain the level of calcium i need, so I'm just trying to remove excess CO2

No I'm not using the second chamber.
Are there any cons for using the kalk reactor along with the calcium reactor?

My water on floor sensor works. I was in bed and my wife tells me she heard the pumps shut off. So i go down to fish room and see water all over floor. I then spotted the link in bottom corner of my 130 gallon frag tank. I gathered up every thing i needed to drain it and then started transferring frags to sumps. Then I hear a thump and 130 gallons of water pouring onto my feet. Frags and fish all over floor. I called saint Joe John he came right over. We got ever thing picked up basement is still a mess.

this was a mess

This summer I'm going to cut all welds off and rebuild this frag tank. I want to do it right this time (Not like the guy who watched a you tube video and deemed himself a tank builder) He cost me a lot of money. I told him the reason it split is that he didn't know what the *%$#%!! he was doing. I get no reply from him. If he is going to Build some else a tank that explodes and destroys 4 radion power supplies. And kills $100 and $100 of dollars worth of frags. And expect me to just say Oh GOLLY GEE to bad that happened I guess you didn't know what you were doing Oh well better luck next time. He needs thicker skin.

Okay that part is done'
As I stated I want to cut all the welds off and rebuild tank. I have watched a Youtube video. But I'm still not a tank builder.
I have a nice table saw and a table router. What blade is best for saw? do I need to use the router to polish the edges?
Any and all suggestions are welcome
