I have a 20" canopy on my 250 with 4 AI Sol blues. It is plenty tall enough. I keep my lights about 10" above the water.

Oh, and my planned additions will mostly be SPS with LPS around the bottom.
I guess I forgot to add that I was looking at this external skimmer now.
I think I am going to get this one
Super Reef Octopus SRO-XP8000E

And use the Eheim compact 5000 for the feed pump.
AGE makes awesome tanks. I cant wait to see pics when you get in place and set up.
just for kicks, I thought I would throw up a pic of my AGE tank that I am setting up, I also had a furniture builder wrap the steel frame stand. (but is more of just a QT tank compared to your behemoth of a tank.)

My tank is 60Lx26wx24t.
while in theory wrapping the stand was easy, we experienced some issues with the wood swelling during high humidity. There is no plywood(other than the top from AGE) on the stand. all the sides are true red oak board, and therefor it does swell a considerable amount if not kept in a controlled environment. This is normal for all wood, and not normally an issue as long as the design allows for some float.(basic stuff for any furniture maker or true craftsman).
However, it becomes an issue when you try to mount it to a steel frame that does not move with humidity. The corners and trim pieces had to be redone several times due to this. If we had to do it over again, we would have wrapped the tank with furniture grade $$ plywood, and only done the edge pieces in true wood to eliminate these issues.
