How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

That's just extraordinary. I see an application for one of those old-style flapper valve surge buckets, letting loose a bunch of beautiful zoos around the shallow areas, and going nuts with bigger leathers/anemones/LPS in the deeper zones... tank must be big, I just used the term "zones."

LOL, I've been using zones in the sump, but not the tank. Once I get a few months of neglect out of this tank, I'm actually thinking of getting to add things again. Finances are a mess, but we all have out addiction.

Wow, just finished reading after a couple months of slow browsing. Amazing story and great will to over come all of your challanges that you had.

where is the linka ? is he still alive ?

Linka is still doing whatever it is he/she does. Saw him earlier today hanging out in the rocks. Will try and remember to get a pic of it.

Still not really over most of it... but I'm stubborn and don't sit still well. Not real clear on what people do when they can't work. It's boring, and you can't afford hobbies. I've been reduced to hoping Jerry Springer is doing who's the babys daddy show some days.

That's because a tank that size doesn't have zones, it has zipcodes. :D

Finally made it to the end of this thread, and I'm sure glad I did. K, you're one h-e-double-hockey-sticks of a tough sonofagun, and Ms Tink is a saint in waiting to boot. Y'all keep on keepin' on up there.

so I finally remembered to use the camera next time I saw the linka out... my appologies for the POS camara. Its was on sale and I was cheap

and a few other pics for fun

sharks hanging out... I swear this tank isn't big enough for them

clowns and a hippo...

hippos again. Whats the deal with the 'yellow belly' is it just male dominance, or is it a seperate type. I've heard both

bad shot (angles through 1" IS A pita) of the mystery nem. still white and pink. looks kinda like a bubble tip though.

Yellow tang is very camera shy... finally gave up on the scopas all together.

foxface not much better.... and I don't even try anymore with the wrass...

I need to just tank a chair and sit outside by the window... when I'm not in the house they are all out just fine.

I was also made a little (slow) progress. Water change tank (that involves no buckets/cans) is in the works.

My intention is to plumb it in to the tank so water can cycle through it. Once a month or so I'll kill the pump, shut off the return valve, drain that tank in to the laundry room. Quick wipedown, and refill with RO/DI then mix. works good in my head, and whats an extra 100 gallons.

Just once I'd like to drive clear in to town and get EVERY part on my list on the first try. Forgot the union to make one pipe removable... swore it was in the cart...

Glad to see your feeling somewhat better and able to do a lil more yourself and the tank.
I hope your feeling better day by day now

I'm trying. I still can't stand for more than 15-20 mins without a break. Although I have plenty of time to kill so breaks arn't a big deal. I'm hoping this new tank will get me back in the habit of water changes. It had since sometime late last year since the last one.

LOL... I'm here. still not done with my water change set up. Haven't been motivated enough to drive back in to town for the one PVC piece I forgot. I have 6 drawers of misc PVC fittings, and I always seem to need one more...

That is such a true statement for anyone building a tank. I would get so upset because it seemed no matter how I planned it out when I would put it together I was always missing something.

Good design planning and checklists are your friend. Helps if you know ahead of time just what parts are in stock so that you can design around that. Really sucks to be one elbow short, and have bought out their entire stock.

LOL... planning ahead has never been my strong point and my biggest problem with lists is that unless I write them down on my hand I just lose or forget them.

I was watching this thread from the beginning but I do not know what are you trying to do.

LOL... neither do I. When I started this project, I was under the impression that I would just sort of wing it and see where the tank takes me. When I ordered the tank, I had no idea I was about to end up in the hospital for surgery 4-5 times, and end up somewhat crippled so I can't work. Long term I still have no solid plans. I don't forsee being able to sell this tank for any reasonable price, and frankly I don't really have anything better to do than putter with it, or at least think about it. Someday things will figure themselves out and it will be a mixed but primarily softy reef with a bunch of fish, or it won't and I'll leave it for whoever picks up the house when I lose it.
He is trying to keep himself and his tank alive!

Khaos - So how are the none fish pets enjoying you being at home all day long with them? :)

They are doing OK. Dogs really need to be run more, but I haven't been up to taking somewhere they can run off leash in quite a while. Hopefully the snow will melt up in the mountians and I can take them back up there. The cats are just annoyed I'm invading there personal space, and recently somehow we now have 6 ferrets. Not entirely sure how that happened. I figure its best not to ask questions of the boss.

As for my tank plans, the water change tank is plumbed in, and just waiting on me to finish making 100 gallons of water. I hope once I think I have the tank back on track I will go down to about 10% a month, but for now I'm planning on once a week or so.
