How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

how have you been feeling . the tank has improved alot .

I'm still not dead, so I suppose I can't ***** to much. It's a hard transition to go from "big tough crazy guy" to guy who has to get his 100 pound girlfriend to open jars for him...

So is the infection completely gone? Hows everything going regarding your health?

Still have 'traces' of it or so the vampire doctors like to tell me. I think it gives them reasons to get more blood. I have a bad feeling that my case is interesting and they like to share it with all the docs they can

didnt you use marco rocks in your tank? if so did you have any issues with it like algea growth on it or anything?

I didn't have any issues at all really. little bit of a bloom in the beginning but adding 840 pounds of sand and 700 pounds of new rock to any system will give you that.

I actually just ordered a couple hundered more pounds for a different project.

For a tank that grand (only way I can put it lol) you should start charging people to see the tank lol.

LOL.. come on over, price 1 frag.

People who come over tend to get talked in to helping me lift/move something somewhere. Seems to be of late now that people are cluing in to the fact I'm not working, people come over to ask for help on their cars and complain about their wives.

LOL I would if I could...i'm overseas right now let alone in the same state.

Your advice in regards to cars shouldn't be given away for free.... you should package it w/ a viewing of your tank for the price of just a frag.

It's a bargain...you're even a psychologist who listens to ppl's problems w/ their wives lol.

thats good to hear that the infection is mostly gone, and yeah doctors are nuts, my doctor bill from just ear surgery was $66,000, and $2100 was for a doctor that i have never seen in my life, the attending whatever he is automatically gets paid for doing nothing.... i refuse to pay it to this day, doctors only care about you as much as how thick your wallet is it seems like these days....

Back to the tank, i watched your vid of the moonlights and looks awesome, i really like how you aquascaped that tank, did you epoxy the rocks together or?

I just used the 'great stuff' spray foam. other than the crabs like to eat whatever grows on it, I haven't had any problems.

LOL, the guy I am helping rebuild his 429 for his truck buys beer. I sit and drink beer and he does the work. he's actually trying to take on my yard as well. As I haven't mowed or anything in years I'm getting the better end of the deal IMO.

Mostly I'm bored out of my mind, and things like that keep me sane. I've always been one of those people that has to do something all the time and sitting on the couch doing nothing is killing me.

Lol you are a business man.

If boredom is a problem maybe you should look in to setting up pico tanks? They seem small and simple yet I hear more time is needed to care of these tiny things. I actually thinks its neat seeing well kept 2-3gallon tanks lol.

Yeah, you could plumb it into the big tank. LMAO

I'm actually planning the worlds biggest 'cheater' nano. I got my new RKE in today and I've been playing with it. I think I have it programed right, I have my alarm set so I can go wake up and watch everything come on over an hour tommorow morning.

The reason for the 'cheater' nano is that I'm thinking that I'm going to set up a little testing station where I can plug in the salinity, ph and temp probes and a tank that stays the same level would be much nicer. Of course, I've never been very good at leaving well enough alone so I'd have to put something in it of course. I'm thinking a 10 gallon w/ a shrimp/goby pair and a couple rocks to cover in the indestructable green palys that I have everywhere. Be a nice easy place to pull water from with a little 300 gph pump on it.

Figures, I just got rid of all my small tanks.

If your looking for ideas: This is one of my favorite threads. The author does a nice job of updating the thread and pleanty of pics. Its hi tech also. Its a non photosynthetic, Azooxanthellae tank. Its a nice read.

Khaos, if you want a real cheater, plug it in to your 750 gallon "sump"!!! I used to have a 2.5 gallon pico that was 24" long and maybe 4" wide by 6" deep and couldn't keep the temp stable in it.

the intention is to plumb it in to my 300 gallon sump. A nano w/ a 300 gallon sump and a 250 fuge... and the 'other 750 gallons of course. LOL. "officially" its just going to be just a nice easy place to put my temp/ph/salinity probes but we all know how the 1 more tank goes. kinda like just getting 1 ferret.

I got up way to early today and watched the 'sun' come up on my reef this morning. Lights start in the back corner and all the actinics come on across the tank over about 1/2 an hour then the 10-12K lights come on as well. in theory the lights will go off in a reverse order, killing the 10-12K ones then the actinics like a sunset on the other side of the tank. If a get really motivated I might try and use the 12 moonlights and match phases of the moon.

now I'm going back to bed though. To dang early to be up.

whats sad is I actually do have a degree in psycology. I didn't know what else to do in college so I studied people because I didn't understand them. Got a fancy piece of paper I've never used but I still don't get people.

from what I've learned over the years. I worry more about people that do. They seem to end up in politics or even scarier places.

at the risk of this sounding political, they have nothing to gain by not capping the pipe. I trust people when large amounts of money are at stake, more then when they have money to gain..

I worked in the refineries for years, and I know what goes on. No matter how well oiled a machine, sometimes theres just a really big wrench.
