How not to build a 750/1500 gallon build thread-Khaosinc 3/5/71-8/30/11

I'm not that terrible far away.. if there's anything I can do to help that doesn't involve cash, I'm in.. just let me know.. (If I had cash, I'd just buy it all from you in a heart beat.. :) )

I've come to an agreement in my brain and with Tink (although she doesn't care for it_. The tank comes down

If anyone happens to want to take on a completly silly build...now is the time...

if you want anything in the tank now it is the time to speak.

I know a lot of you are going to give me good wishes and want me to try and keep the tank going but bottom line is that it's this or watch it all die when my power is cut off which is only a month away..

with any luck I can trade some stuff and build a new system I can afford and keep some live rock and sand and have the legacy keep going. Maybe even the fish that annoyed me most as that would only be the way things should be.... like that stupid algea blenny

if anyone happens to want to drop what amounts to my bills for the next 6 months... I can arrange delivery but can't help load...

I have easily 30K in this system... would take far less...

Sorry to hear but completely understandable. Hopefully you'll get some serious buyers and not have to deal with the low-ballers. Post in the selling forum and on your local Craig's list. Good luck Kevin!

You are going to get well wishes! This thread got me interested in RC again. I wish I were close enough to be of some help, and as hard as it will be, I hope you can get what you need from the system.

I am going to miss this thread terribly bad has been the most interesting read and life story wrapped up in 1 Good Luck with the Sale

Like many others I am pi..ed off about the raw deal life has given you. I understand how hard this was for you, life can really f..k up a man's dreams/Passions. I hope you at the very least get a fair price for the reef set up, it is a first class system built with blood and sweat. Mike

My best towards your health, Khaos. I watched this thread from the beginning, and watching it come down must be tough for you. BUT you have to make the tough decisions, and usually the tougher the decision, the smarter the decision. You can get another tank - and we'll be watching your Build Thread on it, as well.
My best to you and Tink, plz don't get out of the hobby completely.

Oh man it's been forever since I've checked in on this. I last checked in when it was up and running finally and a friend came and helped you clean the thing and the glass. I had read every post. I can't believe it's over. I'm sorry to see it and I hope one day you can see your dream thru fully. Good luck in everything

Im so sorry. It was such an impressive build. Unfortunately I can't buy anything as it is probably all over kill for me. Out of al those lights you have, I would only need like 1 to light my tank. Best of luck to you in the future. Maybe a (much) smaller tank would be more manageable. Hope you stay in the hobby, even if you have to take a break for awhile.

Been quite the interesting build though.

there is already a "plan" for a smaller version of this system. I'm working on some trades to make it work. The intention is a balanced verson that will run without a skimmer with a few of the original fish I started the hobby out with before I even dreamed up this tank. The main rule is that it all has to run off of 1 outlet, built out of what I have and can trade for and ideally under 1000 watts. Of course it needs to be very stable and easy to take care of as well...LOL. If I was smart I'd walk away from all of it... but I'm not very smart.

Smaller. I think I have a 75 gallon lined up. Where it goes from there I don't know yet. The main thing is I have to afford the bills, so it needs to cost less than $30 a month or so..

There was a 600 gal up on Craigslist a while back (semi-local to you).. I know your looking to go cheap, and that ain't cheap, but if your looking fish only, it might let you keep more of the fish you have/had, cause they don't care much about lighting, and I don't believe heaters are the main power draw...

its not just the lights... its the pumps, the ventalation/dehumidifier system to keep your house from rotting inside out (I've already replaced 3 walls in 2 years), the salt for water changes, food etc.. not to mention I can't spend more than a few mins on my feet to do something like clean the glass.

You're right about the overall cost picture Khaos. It's very easy to look at any one aspect and say "I can afford that" but difficult to see what happens down the road when you then need a bigger pump, a bigger skimmer, whatever. You could write a book about real life experiences in the fish world ($$), and with your sense of humor, could make it a much more fascinating read than some of the tech manuals out now. Your sharing of experience has been invaluable to us all, and I thank you for that.

I have been off the boards for a while, just checked back on this thread. Khaos, I'm so sorry it's coming down, and for all your hardship. You provided a lot of inspiration and laughter and tears for many of us. You are a special person, and though I don't know you, I'm glad I got to feel like I know you through your intelligent and honest and often hilarious writing.

Best of luck keeping your toes in the water, with a reasonable sized and realistic costing system, given your difficult situation. I hope things get better. You are clearly tough and resilient, so if anyone can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, I'm sure you can.

Please keep posting in this thread - new tank, good news, bad if you feel like sharing. You have a lot of folks rooting for you. I'm sure if you do a 75, it'll be as cool and unconventional your current system.
