Congratulations Grandpa!

I am very happy for you! She is going to come visit you and fall asleep in her rocker in front of your awesome tank! Now you need to go home and make for her, her first quilt!

Thanks got to admit it's the best pic on reef central.
Quilt is all ready started. Will finish it tomorrow

David,
looking through your thread the one think that bothered me was the 480lb's of sand. IMO now matter how well you maintain your sand you just cant keep it 100% clean. After seeing the re-build I can say i am very impressed what you have created in such a short time. Over doing the sand-bed is the number one reason why tanks crash and have algae blooms. You aquarium will stay crystal clear now especially with them vortechs working the bottom. I removed my 2 year old sand bed (1'' of nasty) and now I bought 30 lb of (heavier sand) for my 120 2 months ago and still have not put it in. I think substrate is important but keeping the bottom as clean as all 4 glass panels is something hard to resist. Congrats grandpa

Congrats David. I have a 20 month old granddaughter & her favorite thing to do is drag the stepchair infront of the tank & watch the fish.

Hope you have already bought her Finding Nemo!

We have the movie. I placed my nem in the front right corner of tank. This way kids can easily find Nemo.
Dory had to go once she got over 4" inches she took a liking to zoas.

Come on David, this is your granddaughter we're talking about. Time to go get another Dory and don't forget the crew from the dentist office. I remember my grandkids coming over and that was the first thing they looked for was all the characters of Nemo.

Just curious, why not go back to sand again?

I know sand looks nicer. I did try bare bottom on my 125, but I didn't put starboard down. I didn't keep it bare Long and sand went in.
It looks nice with starboard.
I like no sand cus I don't have the matanance. Six years from now my starboard won't be full a sand bed will be.
Most the guys who start a tank never have to worry about a old full sand bed because they tire of it and sell everything within two years.
Also if a coral fall into a sand bed it dies. If a coral falls onto starboard it grows.
