Mixed 500 gal. A.G.E. build. 12 unit LED Radion lights.

I should change it out every month or so, But it is so expensive I push it to 2 months. But regenerating it should be affordable so I do change it out when it is used up.

I've still got a bunch of HC GFO I picked up from our club group buy, Lanthanum Chloride has worked great and my phosphates are still floating around .03-.05 ppm. If you continue to use the GFO and need to buy new from time to time should look at buying it in bulk from chemical company. Our reef club sourced high capacity GFO and bought a barrel at $12/lb shipped and then we measured out in bags and distributed. It's the larger granules and can be regenerated like you're doing.

If you ever take the LaCl plunge, take a look at my overview on my site:
http://reefaholic.com/a-different-approach-to-removing-phosphates/

A $30 bottle goes a really long way and use a 2% dilution now. Currently dose 5.5 mL/hour of the diluted solution and a bottle is 1 QT or 946 mL. At this rate it should last 9.8 years, only complaint is having to change filter socks every other morning but have an automated way of doing that I'd like to incorporate soon.

The crux is mechanical filtration to ensure you get all the particulates created by the Lanthanum Chloride. It's unhealthy to high respiration fish (tangs in my case) if you don't filter it all out as well as any filter feeders (Coral/sponges). Public aquaria has used it for some time and healthy if used properly.

I mentioned a solution to the filter sock, this is what I mentioned as being replacement!

I'll stop taking side tracking your thread David:)

While I was at Aquarium Wholesale for the Neptune (Apex) BBQ Diego was showing me the autofeeder, I told him that it was just way too small to meet my needs. So he told me about the Super feeder from one of their competitors. Quality isn’t as good as Neptune’s feeder but it holds plenty of food. Seems to work well. I set feeder to feed a shall amount 9 times a day using the apex.

Have you set it up to work off the Apex as the timer? I looked at the web site for Superfeeder and, besides only being able to look at it for short periods because it was hurting my eyes, I found it hard to tell how the Apex would control it (interface type etc.).

Thanks,
Humphrey

p.s. I love your thread and tank, thanks for all the effort you put in to document it.

Adjust the time as needed. You only need it on for a couple of mins. Add more if time statements if you want multiple feedings.

Basically the outlet is off all the time except between 8am and 8:02am. When the feeder gets power the drum rotates for however long you have the tiny screw on the front set to.

Hi David -
