Mixed 500 gal. A.G.E. build. 12 unit LED Radion lights.

I was blaming my dead corals on the radions when actually it was the Calurpa.
This was because they were both introduced at the same time. Stick to cheato, graceleria and ulva. Stay away from everything else. Figured this out too late cause now I have my 5 400 watt mh 20k radiuums with my 8 radion pros. Best of both worlds I guess.

Still what do you think about the prodibio instead of GFO?

I haven't read much on prodibio, so I dont know.
I am going to look a bio reactors while at MACNA.
Hopefully I will be able to control nitrate better.
Right now I just do a lot of water changes when nitrate creep up

Hi David,

I managed to read all your thread on a sunday afternoon... Lucky i had the excuse of my back not being well so got away with being on the couch lol....

WOW amazing tank and amazing setup, love the idea of using complete LED's...

Can i ask a few questions if i may? do you have tir 120 lenses on your radions? do you have a algae refugium? Also are you going to use bio pallets? they are amazing source of carbon dosing which i really wanted to use for my new built but i thought i say some of of my findings!

In the case of power cut you will run the risk of of tank crash - with a lot of carbon/bacteria being released in the tank and consume all the oxygen.

Also you need to be around all the time so you can fine tune (up the flow or lower the flow) if there is something wrong.

Thanks
Caspian

My system is around 3 years old now. With all the large fish and coral I'm having a hard time keeping up with nitrate and phosphate with just water changes. Too keep them in check I'm having to change out a 170 gallons every 5 days or so.
While at MACNA I saw this bio pellet reactor. http://www.reefdynamics.com/Reef-Dyn...p/bpr1000e.htm

i have read a lot about carbon dosing, have never tried it.

I picked up the Reef Dynamics BPR 250 for my 300. It's only been running for a couple weeks so bacteria is built up enough to do anything yet but so far the operation is great! I love that I can adjust the agitation of the pellets and the flow through the reactor independently. Do it!

Thanks for the compliments.
No I don't have the lenses. I was one of the 1st to my the Radions and haven't done anything to them.

I have an auto back up generator that is on natural gas. Power out for 30 seconds it kicks on
I plan on taking it real slow.

I ordered the Reef Dynamics BPR 1000 while at MACNA. it should get here in 4 weeks. Hopefully you will have yours dialed in, so I can pick your brain.

Have you seen this happen?. I have heard the theory and it keeps getting spread around, but I've not heard of it happen.

I have the reef dynamics reactor- excellent bit of kit. When I was once doing some maintenance on it, I forgot to turn it back on for almost a day. I foolishly turned it on without cleaning it and dumped a days worth into the tank. Corals had super polyp extendo and I had a mini bloom, which cleared in a few hours. I did nothing and it caused no problems at all.

I'm guessing some decent skimmers helped.

But it's becoming quite a scare story, with no real evidence that a power cut would cause a crash from this.

This is interesting. Hopefully someone else can chime in
